This will be the Fourth Annual Buddy Walk held by the Fraser Valley Down syndrome Support group. Last year over 350 people participated. 

                                                                                                                                                              

The Buddy Walk promotes awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome and raises money both locally and nationally. 

                                                                                                                                                            

The Buddy Walk is the FVDSS’ single most important source of financial support.  Due to your efforts, we have raised money to support the group’s activities, such as our New Parent Outreach, Parent Evenings, guest speakers, books and videos for our Lending Library, funding to help families with their child’s physical development, and family events such as the Buddy Walk, Family Picnic, Skating party, Bowling nights, and Christmas Party. 

                                                                                                                                                               

It is not a requirement to raise funds, but we encourage you to gather pledges or make a donation. If you choose to gather pledges, please make sure that people know that their donation over $10 is tax deductible - so legible complete addresses are important!

It is important to register early, as we need to have an accurate number for our food order. This number also helps when the media wants to know how many people are participating in the Walk.  Register before Sept. 18th and be entered for the Most Buddies prize.

Gather Pledges!

Ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers and family members to lend their support by sponsoring you for the Walk.   Hand in Pledge Form and monies by Sept.18th and be entered for the Most Pledges prize.  Be sure to tell sponsors that their donation over $10 is tax deductible. Mark down sponsors’ addresses on the enclosed pledge sheet and collect their donations at the time they pledge. Cheques should be made out to Fraser Valley Down syndrome Support.

Create a Team

Form your own team to walk together in the Walk. Choose people from your workplace, family, classmates of your children, neighbors and friends who want to show their support for people with Down syndrome. Some teams make a team t-shirt - so their team will stand out as they walk together.

Family Potluck Picnic

Date:  May 29th, 2010 (rain or shine)

Time: 11:00-2:00pm

Place:  Delair Park, Abbotsford

Bring your family to Delair Park, Abbotsford

for a fun afternoon spent with family and friends

playing mini golf (weather permitting), playground, and other picnic games .

We ask that you bring a main dish to share (enough to feed your family) and either a salad or a dessert.

Oh! Chairs or blankets to sit on are also a good idea J

Here is what we have planned so far:

        March 11th - Parent Evening -  No guest speaker scheduled, just a casual get together coffee social. 7:30 at the Plaza 154 on Ventura Ave.

        March 21st - Fun Day - sponsored by the LMDSS.  Castle Fun Park 11:00-2:00pm.  $15/person.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP Theresa at the LMDSS office at: lmdss@telus.net  by March 15th.

        April 8th - Parent Evening -  Guest speaker: Barbara Laird.  7:30 at the Plaza 154 on Ventura Ave.  Barbara is an Educator and a mother of a 25 year old girl with Down syndrome.  We welcome her again and look forward to an educative and fun evening.         April 15th - An evening of Laughter -sponsored by the LMDSS. Lafflines Comedy Club, 26-4th Street, New Westminster.  Doors open 7:00pm-Show begins at 8:00pm  Cost: $10 prepaid or $12 at the door.  R.S.V.P. by March 22nd at lmdss@telus.net  For further details call the LMDSS office at 604-591-2722.

        May 29th - Family Picnic - Bring your family, lawn chairs, and a dish to share down to Delair Park in Abbotsford for a fun afternoon from 11:00-2:00pm.  More details to follow.

        Sept. 25th - Buddy Walk - our 4th annual walk to bring awareness of people with Down syndrome to the community, and to raise funds for our local support group and the Canadian Down syndrome Society.  Bring your family, friends, co-workers and have a great time!  Mill Lake from 10:00-2:00pm.  More details to follow.

        Dec. 11th - Christmas Party - another fun Family event taking place at St. John Brebeuf High School from 11:00-2:00pm.  More details to follow.
