Fraser Valley Down syndrome Society

The Fraser Valley Down syndrome Society (FVDSS) is a support group for families of persons with Down syndrome living in the communities from Aldergrove to Hope.

We are a parent-run society made up of families from many different backgrounds but with a significant commonality. In each of our families there is at least one member who happens to have Down syndrome. This commonality has brought us together to form a unique and supportive community committed to sharing ideas, celebrating successes and helping one another through tough times.

Our Parent Evenings are held on the Second Thursday of each month Sept. – June in Abbotsford, B.C.  These are casual get-togethers which allow parents to come together to share and get to know one another and support each other through challenges we may be facing. We sometimes have guest speakers at these evenings, and our Lending Library is always available during this time.

As well as our monthly Parent Evenings, we also organize an annual Walk for Awareness, Christmas Party, Family Picnic as well as various other activities throughout the year to help foster friendships between the people with Down syndrome, as well as their siblings and parents.

In our New Parent Visiting program we welcome new families who are expecting or have just welcomed a child with Down syndrome into their lives. If you are an expectant or new parent, or know of one, our trained visitors would love to meet with you and offer any advice and support we can. We even have a special gift for you!

Please join us as we continue to grow and learn together. We welcome you with open arms, hearts and minds.

We offer a special welcome, and congratulations, to new families along with an invitation to call for support and to ask questions.
