Programs and Services

In our New Parent Visiting program we welcome new families who are expecting or have just welcomed a child with Down syndrome into their lives. If you are an expectant or new parent, or know of one, our trained visitors would love to meet with you and offer any advice and support we can.

Through our location at #1-2316 McCallum Rd., Abbotsford, the FVDSS offers support and resources for parents and caregivers. Our Lending Library is always available when the Centre is open during program times, and parents are welcome to meet in our meeting room to chat over a cup of coffee or tea during their child’s program.

The programs we offer to aid in the cognitive, gross motor, fine motor, social and emotional development of people with Down syndrome include:

Adult Social Nights

Art Classes

Dance

Family Social Events

Fine Motor Playgroup

Music Therapy

Playgroup

Zumba

Through fundraising and community support we are able to provide these services to help our children grow to be valuable and contributing members in our community.

Our annual Walk for Awareness is a popular family event, while pledges brought in during this campaign have become an important part of making these programs a reality.

To make these programs and resources available to all families with a family member with Down syndrome in the Fraser Valley, our society provides these resources at either low or no cost. Being a charitable organization run by parent volunteers, funds raised go directly into fulfilling these goals.
